Oh, forgot, let's check in on the "Vols."
Every single player in Tennessee vs. Kentucky got a personal foul on one play

Back to the PSU-Ohio State game. I'll tell ya, that's got to be the game of the year and I don't mean just so far, I mean when the season is in the books that will still be the G.O.T.Y.
All credit PSU coach James Franklin who, since the Minnesota game last year, (I'm going to use that word) "stunningly" has turned that team around and turned his reputation from a walking joke into frigging Knute Rockne.
They were young and wobbly last year, got out-coached by Matt Canada in losing to a good Pitt team, and came within one underthrown pass of winning that one and, I think, ran the table after that until the Rose Bowl, upset Ohio State in Pa. But the game that I am convinced was the turning point was that Minnesota game when they were still wobbly. Minnesota came in with a good record, but they're Minnesota for godssake, and PSU beat them in OT, maybe double OT. If PSU had lost that game they would have kept on wobbling and James might have had to wobble out of town at season's end.
One game can do that, the players are kids. They wobble before they walk and stumble before they run. This game today will have only the
teeniest effect on PSU's national ranking unless, as I predict, the hangover carries into next week at current #16 Michigan State, themselves, well, cue the headline:
Outscored 22-14 in the fourth quarter, the "Spartans" kids were. At Northwestern, just as PSU was at Ohio State today. Northwestern is not Ohio State, though. Northwestern's stadium is not "The Horse Shoe." PSU led Ohio State 21-0 in the Horse Shoe! Had 'em 38-27 with 5:42 left, 38-33 with 3:07 left. GAWD! They had 'em!
James got out-coached again. Urban Meyer is the toughest s.o.b. in professorial tackle football. Here's Meyer after the game approaching James for the traditional handshake.
Meyer out-toughed James Franklin and willed Ohio State to win that game. The New Rockne got chipped today. He can make this a blip or a turning point next week.
All credit also to the amateur referees in the PSU-OSU game. There was a PSU pass into the endzone, both players had equal possession and the play was ruled on the field to be an Ohio State interception. Damn if the refs didn't reverse the call and give PSU the touchdown. Damned TOUGH thing to do in front of 90,000 nuts in the Horse Shoe. DAMNED ballsy call, Hoo-Doggie.

Here come the Irish,
Here come the Irish.
This team...Tellin' ya, WATCH OUT. Notre Dame(#9) beat #14 North Carolina State like a drum today in South Bend, 35-14. Last week they beat then #11 USC 49-14. So they're getting worse. The "Irish" have a bear of a schedule: play 5-3 Wake Forest next week, at #8 Miami the week after, then 5-2 Navy and close at #20 Stanford. This is almost a repeat of last week's post on ND. Will they win their remaining FOUR? I still don't think so. At Miami and at Stanford? I don't think so.

Georgia(#3) bit off a BIG chunk of alligator meat today in Jax. Beat Florida 42-7. FL's trying to fire their coach with cause, too. Earlier this week Jim McElwain told the media that he, his family, staff, and players had received DEATH THREATS. Which was news to the media and news to the SCHOOL. Turned out not to be true.
There is a LOT of pressure in Gainesville, Florida for whoever is coach down there. It got to both Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer and ran 'em off. It got to Jim McElwain this week and he might get run off.

OH MY GAWWDD! #6 Ohio State beat #2 Paterno-Sandusky 39-38 after being down: 14-0, 21-3, 28-10, 38-27 with 5:42 LEFT IN THE GAME!, and 38-33 with 3:07 left! They forced PSU to punt and scored the winning touchdown...How'd they get the ball back at their own 42? The PSU punter shank it? They got the ball back at their own 42 and scored the winning TD with 1:48 left. They then held PSU on downs and ran out the clock. Out-scored PSU 19-3 in the 4th quarter. Oh, that HURTS, that really hurts.
(7:15 pm)
OH MY GAWWDD! Iowa STATE beat #4 Texas Christian 14-7 in Ames. They are the first team to beat TWO top five teams in a season...since 2011? Just six years ago? WELL, I'D LIKE TO KNOW HOW MANY TEAMS HAVE DONE THAT. AND I BET IT'S THE FIRST ONE FROM AMES, IOWA.
Iowa,
Iowa,
Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall-all
Come, come, come dance with me
At the Beautiful Iowa Ball.
