Dana Holgorsen's an ass. A con man. I don't know what the University of Houston ever saw in the guy. He reminds me soo much of Todd Graham.
Holgorsen left West Virginia before last season to "go home" to H-town. WVU is a Power Five team, UH is not. The move made headlines because of that. Truth is West Virginia was not almost heaven for Holgorsen. He didn't do all that with WVU. They almost fired his smelly ass once and I don't think he would have gotten renewed. Not good riddance but not heartbreak either.
But man, you'd a thought Nick Saban just came to Cow Town. UH saw DH as their ticket to a Power Five conference. UH is an ambitious school athletically. Their president said, just before Dana decamped I think, but within a year certainly, that "We fire coaches who go 8-4." Well, Dana didn't do that, Dana went 4-8, and so didn't get fired. If that makes sense. Which it doesn't. But that's not what makes Dana an ass and a con man and a Todd Graham. This does: In the middle of last season (by the fourth game Dana was 1-3) Dana announced that four "Cougar" star players, including superstar QB D'Eriq King would redshirt, take the rest of the year off, not because they were hurt (the original intent of the redshirt rule), because Dana knew that the season was already lost and to prevent execution of the 8-4 rule, needed a parachute to 2020. So these four guys, pretty much all at the same time, announced before the fifth game that they were going to sit out and come back to UH stronger and older and better than before and UH would zoom! like a rocket (and save Dana's job).
You never know with young folk though, do you? "Oh yeah! yeah! yeah! full 100!" Poof. So in December I think it was D'Eriq announced he was entering the "transfer portal." Like on Star Trek. You step into the thing with intent to get beamed outta there. Or not! D'Eriq could have transferred out and back down to UH but it is never a good thing if you're the holder to have one that you're holdin' not stay held. Today, D'Eriq made it official, he was outta H-town and transferring to Miami Gardens. Enrolled and everything. Starts classes manana. Welcome to Miami, Bienvenidos a Miami D'Eriq. Houston, on the other hand..Uh Houston, you have a Dana problem.
