It seemed to me that the U.S. had been getting slightly better in the last few days, that is, although more people in the U.S. were dying that there were fewer new cases daily. And in fact IHME has lowered their death projections to 60,415 by August 4. Obviously they know better than I but I am mystified and alarmed by the ever-climbing mortality rate and by the number of new cases today. New cases reached peak at 33.3k on April 3, followed by 28.2k on April 4. However on April 5 the number rose to 29.6k. And on April 6 the same, 29.6k. Yesterday, ~28,000, but today, exactly 24 hours to the minute, the new cases rose to 32,829, pretty close to the all-time peak of 33.3k. For the four days beginning March 31, a low point, and ending April 3, the high point there were a total of 118.2 new cases. In the four days starting April 4, the low point in this quartet, and ending yesterday, April 7, at the high point, there were 120.2k new cases. And every day in the last four the mortality rate has been higher than any day in the first four. So, we're not getting better, more of us are getting sick, almost more than on any other day, and we're dying at a higher rate. IHME, show your hand, because it is not apparent in these statistics, it is contradicted by these statistics.
The mortality rate is, of course, most concerning. The goddamned U.S. rate has risen every goddamned day for two weeks since it was at 1.2%. What is most concerning, though, the number of new cases today or the relentless, louder pound of the muffled drums?
I don't know, you choose. Better: Choose to believe IHME. IHME, I'm not taking a leap of faith on you. Before I believe you, explain yourselves.
*Isn't that hideous? I still remember the sound of those goddamned drums from that day.
