Flooding in Germany

I could not make out what this photo was. My son thought it was a quarry. What was the top?

Then I googled Erftstadt, Germany and saw a twitter user who posted before and after photos taken from Google Earth. Oh my God. Labeled "landslide". The bottom dropped out of the edge of the field.Look at the difference in elevation! The elongated structure was level with the field before. After, the roof looks to be 25-50 feet below the field. And that's not even the lowest point. The lowest point looks five-six times the height of the structure below the field. Landslide? That's a damned sinkhole. Whoever the people (farmers?) who lived/worked in those structures were, they were doing some right living!
