The Quasi-Official New York Times made it quasi-official on January 8. They had David Brooks publish a column and supplied him with the headline for it, "I am not Charlie Hebdo."
Neither is Barack Obama.
Charlie Hebdo is not the "best people," Brooks went on to explain, which is why Brooks is not Charlie Hebdo. Neither is Barack Obama. The best people don't gratuitously insult others, especially the religious, satirically or not. I believe Charlie Hebdo was gratuitously insulting of religions and some of their cartoons I believe were not satirical, just gratuitously insulting, like this one:
That is deeply offensive and inflammatory and you have to question the judgment of Charlie Hebdo in publishing that--that's what White House spokesman Jay Carney said in 2012 when that cartoon was published. Jay Carney was one of the best people. Obama is one of the best people, Brooks and the Quasis are among the best people, Charlie Hebdo is not:
"In most societies, there’s the adults’ table and there’s the kids’ table."
Who is at the adults' table, Dave?
"The people who read Le Monde or the establishment organs..."
Oh. What is Le Monde?
"Wise and considerate scholars..."
"Healthy societies, in other words, don’t suppress speech, but they do grant different standing to different sorts of people."
"The massacre at Charlie Hebdo should be an occasion to end speech codes. And it should remind us to be legally tolerant toward offensive voices, even as we are socially discriminating."
Nous Sommes!... Socialement Discriminant!

Oh.
Those with "social manners," who maintain "standards of civility and respect..."
I bet you're not allowed to have a remote-controlled fart machine at the adults' table.
Who's at the kids' table?
"...jesters, the holy fools and people like Ann Coulter and Bill Maher..."
Who's Bill Maher?
Who decides who gets to sit at the adults' table and who gets to sit at the kids' table?
"Healthy societies, in other words, don’t suppress speech, but they do grant different standing to different sorts of people."
"Healthy societies." "Healthy societies"? Like France, or not? Who, like, which "people," in healthy
societies decides who gets to sit at the adults' table and who at the kids' table? Is it a consensus thing? Like, the best people, Le Monde, the wise and considerate scholars, the establishment, manufacture consent in healthy societies? Yes, I think that's what Dave means. They grant "standing"-- and seating!--end everyone knows that Le Maher, The Quasis, and the Obamas sit (or stand) here and those other people like Ann Coulter, Bill Monde, Charlie, moi, stand or sit there, right there, and don't move! And keep your voices down!

I bet I wouldn't be allowed to have my remote controlled fart machine even at the kids' table. :(
Islam's massacre, Charlie Hebdo, the Marche Republicaine, the whole thing is a "teachable moment," Dave says. A "teachable moment." That's what Dave says. Hoo doggie. And he's doing the teaching!
Dave's teaching discrimination! In fact he has a caste system, those who get "high respect," those who get "bemused semirespect," those who get "opprobrium and disrespect."
Teacher, I don't get this part: Did French society grant the same standing to Le Monde and Charlie Hebdo? Of course it did not. Le Monde and Charlie are not in the same league, never were. Charlie strikes me as being like Hustler back in the day, Charlie is political porn. Hustler and The New York Times were not granted similar standing in America, Le Monde and Charlie are not granted similar standing in France.
Or at least were not until last week!
I did not see one "JE SUIS LE MONDE" sign yesterday. (Boy, that looks like a newsroom.)
Teacher, then why did President Obama say he "stands with the French people?"
Why would Obama say that if (1.) He, like, didn't stand with them at all, like, in person (2) He is granted different standing entirely and wouldn't stand in the same place as them anyway and wouldn't sit with them neither on accounta he would be at the adults' table with Le Monde, The New York Times, the "establishment," the "wise and considerate scholars," and Charlie, Ann, Bill, Ben (avec fart machine) would be at the kids' table having a food fight? and (3) He is not Charlie but zillions of French people are?
Obama lied. He doesn't stand with the French people. He is "socially discriminating."
