"COLTS STATE CHAMPS."-Barnesboro Star

Point of personal privilege here (for there are those who love her).

Fifty years ago today my little High School boys basketball team won the Pennsylvania Class B state championship. I think I can still name the starting five players: Greg Kuhn, Tony Nastasi, Joe Nastasi, Ken Anderson, Frank Frontino. Yep.

The game is one of the most memorable in the history of the competition for in defeating Montrose High School 78-69 the Northern Cambria "Colts" beat the two-time defending state champs and broke Montrose's 53 game winning streak. :o Yeah, that's a lot.

The game was played at the University of Pittsburgh's basketball arena and I was there. And that was the headline in my father's newspaper the next week.

It was a brief, shining...No, no, "brief, shining moment" doesn't do it justice. It was a freaking supernova explosion that flashed in the sky and lit up all of benighted Cambria County. It was a unique burst of greatness. Never happened again.
