The headline in the New York Times is Germany's Goal: Restoring Russia-Annexed Crimea to Ukraine. The article, quoting Chancellor Angela Merkel, is consistent with the headline:

Speaking after talks in Berlin with Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko, Merkel said...

"It's important despite, or because of, this to work for a peaceful solution and not rest until the full sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine is restored, and of course this includes Crimea."

Merkel said if necessary, the European Union was prepared to bring more sanctions against Russia for its actions in Ukraine.

"We don't want them. But if there's no other way, then they need to be implemented," she said.

This presumptuous blogger vehemently disagrees with that goal. He also reiterates his opposition to the continuation of sanctions over Crimea as iterated in his March 14, 1:43 am post, which disagreement and opposition he acknowledges to be less "weighty" than the positions of the German chancellor. He now wishes to call into question the mental abilities of the German chancellor for there is zero basis to her belief that sanctions, or anything whatsoever short of war, can return Crimea to Ukraine.
