For 60 years that is what Republicans have done. That is what they do.That is all they can do; it is all they know to do.
They stood athwart reason, evidence in asserting "monolithic communism" in the 1960's. One result was Vietnam. It took them until 1972 and Nixon's trip to China to face stubborn facts.
They stood athwart history in 1964 when they opposed Civil Rights. Then Congressman George H.W. Bush cast his "kinder, gentler" conservative vote against that landmark bill.
Those are only the two greatest issues of the last 60 years so they can be forgiven for standing athwart the tracks and getting plastered as the train went through-as the train called History does.
Abortion, a biggie. Big issue, abortion. Decided: 1973. Republicans cannot accept history, just can't. Never!
They stand athwart science, Science. Evolution? No. "Stop"! the teaching. Global warming? A leftist conspiracy.
They stand athwart evidence. They see 9/11 with their own eyes and see...a government conspiracy. They see Barack Obama's Hawaii birth certificate and see...a birth in Kenya.
Obamacare: No. "Stop"! Alternatives? No. Just no. They don't know alternatives, they just know no. Obamacare's like abortion. They'll be standing athwart it just as ineffectually for the next 43 years.
They never accepted the legitimacy of the first Black president of the United States. On Inauguration night, Inauguration night! they met, over 15 of them, some of the most powerful cretins in America and decided: Whatever President Obama proposed they would oppose. "Stop"!
