The Senate was now directly elected; the Electoral College not a speed bump but a greased channel for democracy; the President's powers had been enlarged. The presidential nominating process was made more democratic.
Came then the deluge and the weakened dam built on a hill moved away and the placid lake of the Republic lept angrily through the breach and destroyed all within its path. The valley below became a valley of death. And the dam was never rebuilt.
