Women Posing in Children’s Clothing? Fad Sparks Body-Shaming Concerns.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/18/world/asia/china-uniqlo-women-childrens-clothes.html

I just got an email last week on Japanese fetishization of young girls. Kawaii culture-"[…] females are perceived as cute only if they revert back to their childish identities — both physically and mentally."

Uniqlo is a Japanese company. The two "concerns" the NYT article raises, body shaming and, I am not making this up, adults trying on the girls’ clothingc in Uniqlo stores in order to take selfies, thereby so stretching them as to render them unsaleable, seem to me, no, are far wide of the mark. The major concern is the spread of kawaii, and hence a culture of child abuse, from Japan to China. I trust American diplomats will take this up with the Japanese at our next meeting
