I was very much anticipating ending this day on a triumphant note with the COVID numbers. It has been a comforting day of validation for me. And a renewal of faith. Thomas L. Friedman was courageous today. Paul Krugman has admitted previously, painfully, that he was wrong about inflation. Years ago David Brooks wrote "A Humble Hawk." Those men will stand up and admit when they are wrong, on the infrequent occasions they are. I have mea culpa'd so many times in the past 19 years one could call this Public Confessions with little exaggeration. More than most people I know I am apt to stand up to contrary consensus. That doesn't always work out well personally but calling 'em as you truly see them without flinching permits sleep without regrets. I will check the Quasi-Official New York Times once more when I finish this post and if there are no new numbers I will shut down for the night.
