Dowd makes a really good point that I think is also accurate. As i say, "A Democrat cannot win Texas until a Democrat wins Texas." But if they do, when they do, a paradigm shift can occur. Paradigm shifts are real things that happen, not some academic construct. It's not foregone that when there's change a paradigm shift will occur, but it happens frequently.
This race is unlike Roy Moore in Bama a few yrs ago. That was a change against another uniquely unqualified candidate but only for a few months until there was a new election. Republicans could say, "It's only for a few months and we can get rid of the Democrat."
This in Texas is for the full 6-year term. This change can settle in. And once you do something once it becomes easier to do it again. That's not an earthquake, that is, as Dowd says, a shift in the tectonic plates of national politics. Talarico is going to win Texas. That changes everything.
