I do not see where the U.S. State Department is "lying," as Haaretz claims. The article is not well-written nor well-argued. My oh my the rhetoric in this thing. Imagine me! Benjamin F-bomb Harris taken aback by goddamned rhetoric! Sheesh.
Wednesday was Hitler Day in Rhetoric class. Thursday was retraction day, sort of. Senator Lindsey Graham said, "No, Putin isn't going to kill the Jews," which was nice. And Hillary Clinton said Putin shouldn't have such a "thin skin" about being compared to Hitler.
It's not getting any better, not the rhetoric, not the situation. Today, the Crimean legislature voted to break away from Ukraine and join the Russian Federation, if asked, and has set a referendum date on March 16, I think it is. But the referendum is not binding, that is it cannot invalidate the legislature's vote...if that makes any sense. The consensus of the rhetoricians is that the Crimean legislature would not have held the vote had Putin not wanted it, which does make sense, which means Putin has decided to annex Crimea, which means either he lied in his press conference of three days ago or completely changed his mind in a matter of three days, which means, either way, I am an idiot blogger for writing that I believed him and that he would not annex, etc. Crimea.
And Ukraine defeated the U.S. in a soccer "friendly" 2-0. It's a beautiful game.
