It feels like the lid has been lifted off a sewer and all those foul odors and creepy creatures have issued forth. We didn't know what was down there, didn't want to know, don't recognize the strange lifeforms we now encounter, and can't put the lid back on. There is no crisis that has exploded so quickly since "Arab Spring."
