In February, as David Brooks told us, all of a sudden millions of Democrats all over the country turned en masse and looked at what had just happened in South Carolina. And then acted the same way in their states the following Tuesdays.
Almost three months later to the day Americans turned en masse and looked at what had just happened in Minneapolis. And every day since they have acted the same way Minnesotans did.
There is a cracking sound all over America. And somebody doesn’t hear it. He has gone tone deaf, has lost his political instincts, is increasingly isolated and embattled, confused and scared. He is trying to be heard, he is shouting louder and louder, but it’s the same old thing and Americans have tuned him out.
