Beirut Explosion

You would be forgiven if you saw this and concluded that an atomic bomb had gone off at the port in Beirut at 6:08 pm April 4 in Beirut. Instead it was 2,750 TONS of ammonium nitrate (fertilizer), seized from an abandoned Russian ship in 2014 and just let to store in a warehouse at the port. Yeah, that is contraindicated ammonium nitrate storage. Timothy McVeigh used 2.5 tons to level the Alfred P. Murrah building in Oklahoma City in 1995. The Oklahoma City bombing killed 168. One hundred thirty-five were killed in Beirut but, according to the NYT, "dozens" are missing.
