Well. I just watched the highlights—almost 14’ worth—of City’s 4-1 win over Wolves yesterday, and I take back what I wrote blindly yesterday, that City’s performance did not read as dominating because the match was tied until the 80th’. It was dominating indeed! Wolves goalkeeper must have PTSD this morning, must be shell-shocked, such were the number and frequency of City shots on/in close proximity to, goal. The pitch once again looked tilted as it does when one side is so superior. Cancelo played but was strangely quiet. KDB also played, could that be the reason? I got my first look at City’s new press style:

Look at the City guy in midfield hard-charging toward the ball in Wolves third!  He’s in a full sprint.

So, me the broken record here: City opponents, you see the implementer of tiki-taka aggressively pressing a non tiki-taka side, even harassing the goalkeeper on a back pass, preventing the non t-t side from getting anything set up offensively--Why do you not similarly press a pass-heavy tiki-taka side like City? I don’t get it, it’s like soccer managers have borderline IQ’s. IT’S RIGHT BEFORE YOUR EYES!

Minutes later, again in Wolves end:

Pressure again...

Pressure forcing the Wolves guy to look to get rid of the ball...

The Wolves guy does get rid of the ball, quicker than he would have liked and back toward his own goal...

Right in the path of a City player...

Who controls...

And gets off a shot.

I also don’t understand that other Jonathan from the Guardian writing that City are made vulnerable with this opponents-end-third pressing, “like they have been with Leicester.” Leicester victimized City when City was on offense at midfield. This is City on defense in the opponent’s third. Goodness gracious.

Final observation:

I love Wolves unis. That hunter green on burgundy is gorgeous.
