It's embarrassing, but Dolly Parton's tits are embarrassing. Americans do embarrassing, we do it without embarrassment. If you do embarrassing without embarrassment do you do it unknowingly?
If you come out of the ladies room all dressed up but with toilet paper hanging from the hem of your designer dress or stuck to the bottom of your Louboutin's people will point at you and laugh but you didn't know! You embarrassed yourself unknowingly.There is no shame--Ooh, that word again--doing the embarrassing without embarrassment unknowingly. We all make mistakes, we all do stupid sometimes, societies are going to do stupid things. But that's what that means, right? If, unknowingly, you do something embarrassing without embarrassment you've done something that is, at least a little bit, stupid. Stupid is as stupid does. Americans don't think of themselves as stupid, but we're not "150%" sure on that one.
Now if you do the embarrassing knowingly without embarrassment, if the thinking is "I just don't care."--How many times have you heard an American say that?--then you're...uncaring. No shame there either! If you "just don't care" about hundreds of people in your own society who have been killed, that's cold. Americans don't think of themselves as cold, either and Americans are "150%" convinced on that one. Americans think of themselves as warm. As nice. We're nice, "friendly." Near synonyms of cold are selfish, narcissistic, anti-social, mean, psychopathological, right? Now, you're hurting our feelings, we're nice, friendly people who care about human life and human feelings, we like you, we want you to like us, Here, we'll give you some money so you will like us--OR better--Do you like fake tits? We can give you fake tits and you can give us money, that would make us happier and would make you happy too, see, we both win! You don't want fake tits? What, are you French or something? We don't like you anymore. How about a big car, wanna big car? Can sell you one? No? We hate you then. "To be perfectly honest" we don't care if you're happy. Take the fake tits OR the big car and give us the money and nobody will get hurt.
Which means that either way, knowingly or unknowingly, Americans are a shameless people.
When you do the embarrassing knowingly without embarrassment and repeat the behavior; when you are cold, uncaring, narcissistic then "as night follows day" your behavior will be mean, it will be insulting to people living or dead, even people in your own society, which you don't recognize psychologically because you are anti-social, you're a psychopath, you're violent.
Americans do not see themselves that way at all.
