As Trump shows more signs of deteriorating, GOP candidates are tied to his fate
When I saw that headline just now, I clicked on the article because in my job when it is written that someone is "deteriorating" that refers to mental health. Taking the lede as a whole however, it seemed clear that the reference was to political deterioration. Then I read the article.
If you were a Republican running in a close race for Senate or House, knowing that whether you like it or not your fate is closely tied to President Trump’s, what would you think if you woke up Tuesday morning and saw this:
Buffalo protester shoved by Police could be an ANTIFA provocateur. 75 year old Martin Gugino was pushed away after appearing to scan police communications in order to black out the equipment. @OANN I watched, he fell harder than was pushed. Was aiming scanner. Could be a set up?
That is clearly looney-tunes. That is manifest mental health deterioration.
And in fact Paul Waldman, the author of the piece writes that Trump got the idea from "having watched a bonkers conspiracy theory segment on the far-right cable channel OAN..."
Where Trump got it though is really beside the point. You, me, everybody who is sane would immediately have dismissed the notion. This guy Trump, the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, bought it and thought so much of it he tweeted it with his own commentary. "Could be a set up?"? No, it "could be" 25th Amendment time.
