One hundred fifty years ago the proudest boast was “I am a Republican.” Today, in the world of Trump, the proudest boast is “Ich bin ein Lincolner.”

There are many people who really don’t understand, or say they don’t, what is the difference between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party. Let them see America today.

There are some who say that Trumpism is the wave of the future. Let them see the blue wave approaching them today.

And there are some who say we can work with the Trumpists. Let them see the Lincoln Project’s ads.

And there are even a few who say that it is true that Trumpism is evil, but it permits us to make economic progress. Footis gurra muddah saffood asha meena.

I appreciate my translator not translating my Romanian.

Freedom has many difficulties and democracy is not perfect, but Democrats have never had to put a wall up around the White House, or hide in a bunker from people.

My fellow countrymen who wear Union blue embrace the Never Trumpers of the Republican Party with the warmth of a reunited family. I know of no group, no Party, that has been as besieged for 3 and ½ years that fights with the vitality and the force, and the courage and the determination as the people of the Lincoln Project.

While the virus is the most obvious and vivid demonstration of the failures of Trumpism, for all the world to see, we take no satisfaction in its failure, for Trumpism is an offense not only against America but an offense against humanity, separating families, dividing husbands and wives and brothers and sisters, and dividing a people who wish to make a more perfect Union together again.

The Lincoln Project was born on a besieged island of freedom surrounded by hostile waters but it has now entered the main. So let me ask you as I close, to lift your eyes beyond the dangers of today, to the promise of tomorrow, beyond the wall, to the end of Trumpism everywhere, beyond the virus to the day of health and safety, of peace with justice, beyond yourselves and ourselves to all of America.

Freedom is incommensurate with Trumpism, and when one man is a Trumpist, all are not free. When all are free, then we can look forward to that day when Democrats and Republicans will again be joined in one nation under God, indivisible with freedom and justice for all. When that day comes, and it will on November 3, the Lincoln Project can take sober satisfaction that nearly alone they held out against the stormtroopers’ onslaught for four years.

All free people, blue and red, black, brown and white, are members of the Lincoln Project, and, therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words "Ich bin ein Lincolner."
