The Miami Heat organization will forever regret night [sic, "not"] sending a package of players that included Tyler Herro to the Houston Rockets to obtain James Harden. [That's also sic, I don't believe it. They balked at sending him to Toronto for Kyle Lowry. They might regret that. That statement is based however on the following comments by Ira Winderman, the dean of "Heat" beat writers, and Ethan Skolnick, who was the best basketball writer the Miami Herald ever had.]
The team is paying for it badly as Tyler Herro has badly regressed with his play on the court. Herro became a viral sensation with his play on the last year in the NBA Bubble, and with him dating a popular Instagram model in Katya Elise Henry, he has found some serious fame off the court.
That is a problem.
Miami Heat beat writers Ethan Skolnick and Ira Winderman recently spoke on their “Inside the Paint” podcast, and stated how the Heat organization is greatly concerned about Herro and his poor play.
Ira Winderman: Tyler Herro chose to become a celebrity,” “He chose to become something outside the game, as is his right. With his breakfast cereal, and his Tyler Tuesdays, and his Chipotle Bowl and that’s all well and good. But you know what? Other players when they see a player doing that before they’ve truly reached it. I don’t know if I want to say there’s a jealousy. … They sort of take a scant view of the guy and say, ‘Wait a minute buddy. You haven’t done anything yet
Ethan Skolnick: “Ultimately, the team starts to get a certain level of concern,” “In this particular case, the team has been concerned now for months.”
[Holy cow, I didn't know any of that. I will tell you I have never read Ira Winderman talk like that about a "Heat" player or member of the organization. Ira clearly pulls his punches in his Sun-Sentinel column. Not here. I have listened to more of that broadcast now. Ethan came across as annoyingly coy in this podcast: there were problems in the "Heat" locker room even during the Big Three; the greatest "Heat" player ever, you know who I mean. Yeah, we do, but so enlighten us, Ethan, what were the issues? Don't titillate us with a skirt lift. Ethan seemed also to be not as knowledgeable as Ira, would say things, Ira would say something different and Ethan, "Yeah." He seemed to be reaching for intel that Ira didn't have; that's how "the team has been been concerned now for months" about Tyler Herro's social activities came across to me. Ira lit into Tyler good and Ethan seemed to be trying to one-up Ira with that comment. I believe it's true that the "Heat" has been concerned about Tyler, I'm just sure I trust that Ethan has had that intel for months.]
