Oh Lord.
David Blatt is a smart man, just ask him. David Blatt has coached professional basketball for twenty years, as he is also happy to tell you. But David Blatt is a rookie NBA coach, just never, ever say that to him.
David Blatt has a bone in his brain whether that comes from inflated self-estimation of his intelligence or inexperience. Blatt is head coach of the Cleveland "Cavaliers." Who have LeBron James. And yesterday Dave used his high IQ and experience and tried, really tried to fuck up a game, a season, and a job.
The calcification began with about 21 seconds left in the game, Cleveland leading by two points and with ball possession. Pretty good situation. All they had to do was "get the ball in," throw a pass from their out of bounds position to one of the four other Cleveland players on the court. Take One, fail, timeout. Take Two, fail, timeout. Take three, Success! but two LeBron James turnovers and a basket by the other team, the Chicago "Bulls," and we're all tied up baby! Dave steps onto the court and in universal basketball sign language signals for a timeout.
A scary moment then ensued as a large African-American individual attacked Dave :o
Fortunately he was a "good" black guy, one of us, a "team player," he was the assistant coach to Dave and wasn't actually attacking Dave, he was protecting, he was protecting the team, he was protecting Dave from himself, and he was protecting Dave's JOB because Tyronn Lue knew something Dave did not: Cleveland was OUT OF TIMEOUTS. Fortunately, the gendarme, the referees, did not see Dave making the "T" sign with his hands for if they had--And they also knew that Dave didn't have a timeout to use.--then they, the refs, would have made a hand signal similar to the T-for-timeout signal, they would have put the palm of one hand on top of and perpendicular to the other. That is the T-for-technical-foul signal and Chicago would have shot a free throw, Cleveland would have very likely lost the game, would likely have lost the series which would have prevented them from winning the World Championship and would likely have cost Dave his JOB. So yeah, Tyronn Lue saved Dave and the Cavs.
He made it, they're celebrating there not attacking him, LeBron James made the shot that won the game that saved the season that saved Dave's JOB. Maybe.

But Dave wasn't done. Trying to fuck things up.
With 1.5 seconds left Dave called a play, one last play, a play for Cleveland to win the game, even the series, stay in practical contention for a World Championship, and save Dave's JOB. Dave's play called for LeBron James, the World's Best Player, to throw the ball from out of bounds to some other player, whoever he was he was not the World's Best Player, who would then try to win the game and all them other things.
LeBron James said no. LeBron James said he wasn't going to throw the goddamned ball in to somebody else, somebody else was going to throw the ball in to him and he would try to win the game. So that's what they did.
