Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, the mayor of Baltimore, fired Police Commissioner Anthony Batts today. A spike in crime, the Freddie Gray homicide, and the aftermath were the reasons given.
Baltimore City Council President Bernard C. “Jack” Young said his conversations with residents and police officers detected a “growing lack of confidence in the direction of our city’s crime-fighting strategy.”
