Speaking of no deals this has been an exceedingly quiet summer so far for Manchester City. With FFP restrictions lifted the Angels have a blank check from Sheikh Mansour to buy, buy! BUY! They haven't, haven't, haven't. Oh, they got, or will get, I forget, some guy from the Villains* and a couple of other very young players which is what they did in summers before the greatest sports owner in the history of the whole earth bought them. But they have not concluded anything with the Vegetarians for Raheem Sterling's services nor with Juventus for Paul Pogba, their top two targets.
I forget what the story is with Pogba but the Veggies have slapped a £50 million price on Sterling's head and me thinks the Angels don't think Sterling is worth all that sterling. Me doesn't think so anyway. Me thinks the Veggies have set a "City price" on Sterling which includes a markup for the size of Sheikh Mansour's bank account. In the past that valuation strategy worked because City were targeting the best players on earth and would pay whatever it took. The difference here, which the Veggies haven't taken into account, is that Raheem Sterling is not one of the best players in the world!
I believe that Liverpool F.C. is fundamentally stupid. If I am correct that City are doubting Sterling's valuation then they will tell Jolly Rodgers, et al to keep him--Hey! maybe John Henry could put him in the outfield at Fenway!
That sound you just heard was Rodgers hitting the deck.
For the club have been spending their ownselves this summer assuming that they have the money from City to spend. They don't. And Brendan Rodgers knows that be cannot take Sterling back now. He hates Sterling at this point, everybody associated with the club hates Sterling at this point and Sterling hates them back! Sterling cannot play for Liverpool ever again. And he won't. I am probably wrong and City will pony up. Or they won't and Liverpool will accept their £40 million offer. Or they will sell Sterling elsewhere. Only on Merseyside where they sniff laughing gas is there the "fall back" positon of "He's under contract through 2017!" If I was Sheikh Mansour--Oh! by the way, I'm not.--I would "go dark" and let Liverpool stew. Kick the ball into LFC's zone and wait for the inevitable slip. If they keep Sterling...Well, stupid is as stupid does.
I do not like or respect Liverpool F.C.
* "Fabian" "Delph" has decided to stay with Aston Villa, the villian. (July 12, 3:14 pm).
# I got on the internet via my phone about an hour ago, googled "Manchester City" to check on Raheem Sterling updates. First up, on twitter, was "Raheem Sterling rejects Manchester City for West Ham United." WHAT?!
City have been trolled by C.U.M. fans continually and hilariously since Fabian Delph rejected them to stay with Aston Villa yesterday. The Sterling to West Ham tweet was a troll. You got me, C.U.M.-shooters! Gotta give you credit, that was a good one. City did get Sterling. About 30 minutes ago the BBC reported that the two clubs had agreed on a £49 million transfer fee. Sterling is on his way to Manchester to negotiate his wages and to take a physical. (July 12, 6:33 pm).
