President Obama said the murderer was mentally ill;* one of the surviving victims said he targeted Christians; he is described in some accounts as being anti-religious, which is contradictory with singling out Christians; one, only one, website described him as a terrorist; there are no accounts, not one, of what, if any, religion he was raised under; Oregon's top federal prosecutor said (s)he had heard "rumors" that the murders appeared to be "race-related;" yesterday he was described as bi-racial.
UPDATED, 6:52 pm. I have just watched President Obama's statement on the shootings. Frustrated man; looked like he wanted to punch a wall. The president did NOT say that this guy Mercer was mentally ill, he said it's fair to say anybody who does something like this has mental problems no matter what he thinks his motive is.
