Congratulations to the Kansas City “Chiefs,” World Champions! The “Chiefs” were their trademarked late scorers again, overcoming a ten point deficit after three quarters and overwhelming San Francisco 21-0 in the 4Q to win easily 31-20.
It is the second Super Bowl win ever for KC, the first exactly fifty years ago in Super Bowl IV, the last of the AFL-NFL Championship games. This one, in parallel Roman numerals was Super Bowl LIV.
KC’s Super Bowl IV win was not the most famous, that title belongs to Super Bowl III, also in Miami, the Joe Namath “guarantee” by the pool. The Chiefs win in Super Bowl IV however was the most impactful. It forced the AFL-NFL merger the next year. How fitting to pay homage to that first KC champion on its Golden Anniversary. God bless the city of Kansas City, the “Chiefs” of 2019/20 and the “Chiefs of 1968/69. And God bless the old American Football League.
