Jimmy Butler to miss second game in a row for personal reasons
(Miami Herald)
His baby daughter, do we presume? I do hope the little thing is alright but that doesn't sound good. Whatever the reason there are problems with the explanation: 1) We don't know the reason. 2) "Personal reasons" covers a broad swath of specific reasons, and 3) "Personal reasons" has been used before, by this organization, this season, as the official explanation for disparate species of reasons sprouting in that broad swath.
"Personal reasons" was the explanation for Jimmy missing opening night. The "Heat" had planned an elaborate welcoming ceremony. The "Heat" did not know even at the beginning of that day why Jimmy wasn't in Miami. As I recall, Spo told the media a few hours before tip off, "Jimmy's not here" and it wasn't until shortly before tip off that the useful "personal reasons" was offered. People were shocked. People speculated on all the bad things it could be. It wasn't until a day, maybe two, later that Spo told everyone Jimmy had just become a father. Why, in God's name, could Jimmy not have given the "Heat" the heads up that his sig/oth was going into labor before just vanishing? You know, so they could call off the cheerleaders, change the video display? Why the mystery? The birth of a child is a beautiful thing! What's wrong with telling us? "She's having my baby."
"Personal reasons" was also the explanation for one of Dion's absences and Dion was not giving birth although his girth sometimes suggested he was. And, as I recall, "personal reasons" was also used for one of JJ's absences. Those are bad reasons.
So right there we have "personal reasons" being used three times, two of them as generic code for "bad." But in Jimmy's specific case "personal reasons" was code for a good thing. It can't be again code for the birth of a child, that's for sure, and so once again we are left to speculate on bad things, like the health of his daughter. If, God forbid, she is unhealthful, "personal reasons" will do. Would "a family matter" be too intrusive? Perhaps. You don't want people reaching out to you "what's the matter with the baby?" I do wish that in "Heat" lexicon--And you know they have their own lexicon! There's probably a manual for it: "birth of child, see personal reasons"; "eat THC gummy bears, see personal reasons"; "wants out, see bad back." Secretive organization, the "Heat."--I wish the "Heat" would add to its lexicon, maybe just an emoji after the code word :) :I :(.
