The new "Heat" last night in Utah looked much like the immediate pre-trade "Heat":
SALT LAKE CITY -- Facing Miami's tough zone defense a second time, the Utah Jazz finally figured it out.
Like the pre-trade Boston game.
Like the pre-trade LAC game Miami took a slight, five point, lead into the half and got blitzed in the 3Q and 4Q 69-49. Like the "Heat" of all 2020 the D was d: "Jazz" shot 48.2% for the game. Curiously, like one pre-trade game I can remember the only starter plus in +/- was Duncan Robinson, supposably the most minus-y back court player on the squad.
And like management has been saying since all but the earliest days of the season, the team needs a defensive Big. 7'1" Rudy Gobert had his way in the post against 6'9" Bam Adebayo: a team high +25 going against Bam, 16 points, 20 rebounds and 2 blocks.
Going into the game it was reported that DJj had asked permission of Spo and Jimmy (note: "and Jimmy") to henceforth guard the enemy's top sharpshooter. Hard to tell who that was because Bogdanovic had 22 on 9/17, Mitchell had 26 on 9/16, and off the bench Clarkson had 21 on 8/12. DJj started, Iggy came off the bench, both are "Heat" "stoppers" and each played an identical 24". Spo gave each exactly half the game, whether they were consecutive or not. But neither "Heat" stopper stopped shit and DJj, who was -10 for the game, had a practically invisible stat line for a guy who played half the game: 0 points, 0-0 FG, 0-0 FT, 0 assists, 2 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block and, by far the largest number, 5 fouls. There's no other way of reading that than that DJj was given the green light (by Spo and Jimmy) to be the "Heat" red light and hacked and flailed away ineffectively. Suggest permission by rescinded.
Iggy had a worse +/-, -12, as the other "Heat" stopper but did some little bit offensively: 9 points on 3/6, all from range, 5 'bounds, 2 assists.
Jae Crowder had another solid game for the "Heat." 25", 15 points on 5/7 (3/4) and only a -6, second best on the team.
Curious damn thing Duncan Robinson's +11, healthy number, 11, and the only "Heat" player of nine with a positive. Plus/minus is the next thing to bullshit, it may be worse than bullshit and I wish the NBA would do away with it, but it is there.
