In a true and meaningful sense those of us who have come out of this unscathed—who have not been sickened or had those close to us sickened or killed, who have not experienced job loss or pause—have gone through history together, the worst year in America’s existence. We’ve had wars and recessions and depressions and a pandemic before, but we have never had the loss of life as in war plus economic loss, plus a coup d’etat of our country, PLUS restrictions on social life. (The latter has been my dream come true, of course). Seriously, we are all witnesses to history and owe ourselves a group hug.
