Day Eight

In the first hundred days of my administration, no margin for error existed. Every move we made counted. Every American was paying attention. Had we restarted the financial system? Had we ended the recession...Our scorecard was posted daily for everyone to see...My team and I carried that knowledge with us the minute we woke up, and it stayed with us until we went to bed.
Barack Obama, A Promised Land (459)

For January 28, President Biden's eighth day as president of the United States, the following scorecard is now posted (Johns Hopkins):

4,000 new Deaths. That is only the fifth time in the 358 days of the epidemic that Deaths have topped 4k in one day.

The changes over the last fourteen days (NYT):

-34% Cases
-15% Hospitalizations
-2% Deaths

Almost identical to yesterday's iteration but Deaths have declined an additional one percent.

The daily averages over seven days (Jan 22-28):

159,625 Cases. That is down from yesterday's iteration; it has been down every iteration from Jan. 8.
110,163 Hospitalizations. This is down, as it has been since Jan. 10
3,263 Deaths. That is down. That is two successive days of declines. That is up 207 average daily Deaths over the last iteration of 46-1's presidency on Jan. 20. It is off the average daily peaks of Jan 11 through Jan. 17.
