Annie Murphy is a phenom. She is a supremely talented actor and plays the Alexis Rose character to a T. Her mannerisms when Alexis when is uncomfortable are spot on for the character, not overdone, not underdone, just

adorable. I don't have the clip but if you have a chance just watch 7:50-9:10 of S3 E12.

Ms Murphy also showed her acting range. She did not get typecast by the series as forever a charming, bubblehead. The screenwriters knew what they had in her and they made the character Alexis grow much more than any of the others, including David/Dan Levy; they wrote steel into Alexis’ character, made her a decision-maker and a quick learner and they challenged Annie Murphy to demonstrate her range. Again, she knocked it out of the park. Ladies and gentlemen, Annie Murphy is a great actor.

I was moved that Eugene Levy did not want Ms. Murphy for the part because she was a brunette, but that Dan Levy convinced his father because of Ms. Murphy's transparent "goodness." And they could dye her hair. That innate goodness is transferred from Ms. Murphy to Alexis without without a molecule lose to friction. Annie Murphy is, as she was characterized here previously, the North Star of Schitts Creek.

Do you know that the North Star hardly had acting work before Schitts Creek? She does have the lead in a TBA film Kevin Can Fuck Himself. I was moved to anger when I read her work history. If that woman was American she would have had her own spin-off TV series, a la Mary Tyler Moore by now. The Alexis character is as charming as was Mary Tyler Moore in The Dick Van Dyke show but Ms. Murphy is a far superior actor. Her overlooked talent reminds me of, who else, Susan Boyle. I can't believe Hollywood has not seen the blinding light coming out of the True North. It makes you feel good when a public person is as good in real life as he or she is on the field or the court or the stage and Annie Murphy's talent is surpassed only by her innate goodness.
